ustig, meaning fun or happy in German, is an excellent value Grüner Veltliner made by Josef and Pia Wurzinger at their winery in Tadten Seewinkel in Burgenland, near the Hungarian border. The estate is located east of Neusiedlersee, and the lake's cooling breezes helps to moderate the area's hot summers. The grapes are selected from vineyards planted on sand, clay and gravel soils with rocky, chalk outcroppings. The vines are planted with green cover crops and are farmed without the use of herbicides.

The Lustig 100% Grüner Veltliner is indeed a fun and happy wine. The grapes are macerated for six hours and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel and kept on the lees for 10 weeks without any malolactic conversion. The wine is wonderfully aromatic with citrus fruits, peach, herbs and grass. On the palate, it is easy to enjoy with a lively acidity and medium body which give it effortless drinkability. Enjoy with fresh salads, Austrian-style dumplings or cured meats.
